After ending an Advanced Placement computer science exam in 2008 due to low participation, a revamped Computer Science Principles test debuted in 2017 as the most popular exam launch ever, with about one third of the test takers registered as female or an underrepresented minority (not Asian-American or white). In the second year, the number of female or underrepresented minority test takers grew at least 60%.
